Why I give to Cleveland Rape Crisis Center
I give to provide a voice to those who cannot or choose not to speak out – babies, toddlers, prisoners, or people who are fearful, intimidated or threatened.
I give to help provide life-changing services to survivors of rape and sexual abuse–survivors of any and all ages, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion or socioeconomic standing.
I give because I am the mother of two precious daughters.

Why I volunteer with Cleveland Rape Crisis Center
When people learn I am involved with Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, I am shocked at how often they tell me about someone in their life who has been affected by sexual assault. I am frequently encouraged when I hear that the Center or a similar organization gave them hope, gave them the courage to speak out.
I am part of the Board to help ensure that people have a voice.

In 1984, Joanna Connors was thirty years old and a reporter for The Plain Dealer when she was raped at knifepoint by a stranger. Twenty years later, she went in search of the story of her own rapist, determined to find out who he was, where he came from, what his life was like – and what leads a person to do something as destructive as what he did to her. The journey is chronicled in her new book, I Will Find You. Join us for an intimate conversation with Ms. Connors and Sondra Miller, President & CEO of Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, at the Cleveland launch of the book. Sales of I Will Find You will benefit the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center.

Cleveland, OH – Cleveland Rape Crisis Center has been awarded a 2016 Top Workplaces honor by The Plain Dealer. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including Alignment, Execution, and Connection, just to name a few.
Read more about the award and the winners in The Plain Dealer’s article: Leading Northeast Ohio employers give back, stand out from the pack.
“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest. And oftentimes, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits.” says Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. “But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees. Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together. Claffey adds, “Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace.”
Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s mission is to support survivors of rape and sexual abuse, promote healing and prevention, and advocate for social change. Each year, the Center serves more than 28,000 people in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties, leveraging 50 full-time staff and more than 100 volunteers.
“Cleveland Rape Crisis Center is honored to be recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Northeast Ohio,” said Sondra Miller, President & CEO of Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. “We aim to promote a trauma-informed work environment that empowers our staff to do their work to their fullest capacity, supports them in their efforts, and inspires teamwork in order to provide the best service to the community.”
