Orientation Workshops

August 2018 (and ongoing)

If you or a loved one is a survivor of rape or sexual abuse, Cleveland Rape Crisis Center invites you to participate in a four-part series of educational workshops about the effects of sexual trauma and methods for coping.  Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Center’s counseling services.

August 2018 Workshop Dates:

  • Wednesday, August 1, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – What is Trauma?
  • Wednesday, August 8, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – Coping Skills and Self Care
  • Wednesday, August 15, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – Emotional Regulation
  • Wednesday, August 22, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – Healthy Boundaries and Support Systems

Participants are welcome to attend any combination of the four workshops.

Cost:  Free.  No registration required.

Best Foot Forward

Saturday, August 4, 2018

Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, in partnership with Healthy Fathering Collaborative and Passages, presents Best Foot Forward, an event for young men in grades 8-10 and their mentors, coaches, teachers, or group leaders.  Young men will learn about important skills they need to succeed in the world, like job interview skills and healthy relationship skills, and explore what it means to be a leader in our current culture.

Cost:  Free
Incentives:  Lunch is provided.  Participants will have the chance to win raffle prizes, including Beats headphones, and gift cards.

Professional Training:  Crime Victim’s Rights in Ohio Post Marsy’s Law

Wednesday, August 8, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Hosted by Cleveland Rape Crisis Center

OCVJC Victims’ Rights Training is a four-hour comprehensive, multi-disciplinary training that informs trainees about the legal rights of victims and the ethical obligations of those assisting them.  The training includes a focus on access to justice for crime victims.  Many of these rights have changed with the passage of 2017’s Issue 1, Marsy’s Law.  This training will update criminal justice officials and related professionals on these changes to victims’ constitutional and statutory rights.

For law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, advocates, medical personnel, counselors, social workers, and others who serve crime victims.

Cuyahoga County SART Conference

Friday, October 12, 2018

This year’s focus will be on how we respond to survivors of sexual violence as a community.  Topics of special interest: working with male survivors, addiction and sexual violence, human trafficking, campus sexual assault, trauma, meeting the needs of marginalized survivors, and evidence-based practices.  Target audiences: advocates, education professionals, mental health professionals, medical professionals, law enforcement professionals, and prosecutors.
