Dear Survivors of Rape and Sexual Abuse:

April 8, 2020

We hear you. This is hard.

In the last three weeks, 931 of you have connected with us over phone, text, online chat and telehealth video conferencing.  You’ve told us that “being trapped at home with an abuser is the worst thing that could happen.”

You’ve let us know that the support systems you have worked hard to build are simply not available to you right now.

You’ve shared that you are struggling to meet your and your family’s basic needs and need help finding safe shelter and food and accessing unemployment benefits.

Some of you have expressed disappointment that your court hearing has been postponed – yet again – and that you don’t know how you can possibly wait any longer to seek justice.

We are here for you.

And we remind you:

  • It’s okay to not be okay
  • Your feelings of uncertainty, anger, guilt, worry, depression and anxiety are normal
  • Even though we may be distanced, you are not alone

We understand the current public health crisis has taken away some of your coping strategies, and we are standing by to help you find new ones.

All of Cleveland Rape Crisis Center’s services continue to operate via telehealth and teleservices, and we are honored that you continue to trust us with your care and healing journey.

Our advocates are available 24/7 via phone, text and online chat to support survivors and their loved ones through these unprecedented times.  Our counseling, victim assistance and case management services, as well as our specialized services for victims of human trafficking, are all available via telehealth and teleservices.

Contact our hotline 24/7 for support, information, or to schedule an appointment.

We will get through this difficult time together. You are not alone, and we will continue to provide you with the support and services you need to get through in the coming weeks and months.

Be well,

Sondra Miller, President & CEO
