A Self-Care Tip From Manager of Clinical Services, Billie Gilliam

Sometimes we struggle with how to be productive, whether it’s in our personal or professional lives. I know I do.  There is a difference between being mindless, and being intentional about being at rest and allowing our creative juices to flow naturally.

Ask yourself:  Am I being productive, or am I just busy?  Here are some things to consider.

1. Think about the process vs. the endpoint. You don’t have to finish it all today. Be incremental and intentional in your approach.

2. Value the time when you are doing “nothing.” Do you notice sometimes that you have some of your best ideas in the shower?

3. The idea of being non-productive allowing you to be productive is a paradox, not a conflict.

Occasionally, just be. Intentionally give your mind time and space to wander, without the help of the internet.
