Crucial Conversations

Hello Advocates,

On behalf of the Social Justice Committee (SJC), we would like to invite all of you to join us for a Crucial Conversations Session on Wednesday, May 20th at 3:30 pm via Zoom.

Crucial Conversation Sessions are opportunities for staff members to hold space for one another and mobilize towards change regarding current social justice issues/events. Through each session, SJC’s goals are to promote healing and inspire action.

Recent news and social media coverage of cases like the killings of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, the inequities in medical care provided to people of color during COVID-19, and the blatant privilege afforded to armed, white protestors at statehouses across the nation, point to the racial disparities running rampant in our country. CRCC recognizes that our mission to eradicate sexual violence, advocate for social change and support survivors cannot be completed successfully if we ignore the intersectional issues which face the clients we serve and the staff providing those services.
We also recognize the important role aspiring allies play in championing for social change and are calling all aspiring allies on staff to increase their efforts in order to show up for our black and brown colleagues.

This Crucial Conversations Session will feature the following:

-information regarding the issues at hand
-break-out sessions providing an intentional, trauma-informed experience for all participants
-resources for ways to get involved

Breakout Sessions:
For this session we will be breaking up into affinity groups. In doing so, we believe it will allow all members of staff who identify as persons of color to have a safe space to process any emotions triggered by these events/ the constant social media coverage. Additionally, it will allow our aspiring allies to have a separate space to acknowledge privilege and develop tangible action steps for moving forward towards change.

When registering you will be asked to select either Group A or Group B for our break-out sessions. Please register for Group A if you identify as a person of color. Please register for Group B if you identify as an aspiring ally in this issue.

We look forward to engaging with you all on this topic on May 20th!
